Home: About
GraceAnne was born in Appalachia, where storytelling is a way of life. She considers it a privilege to work with a community of diverse artists to physically realize narratives. No matter the venue or medium, producing compelling stories is a learning experience - being a quintessential student herself - this drew her towards scenic art opportunities.
GraceAnne graduated from Centre College in 2012 with a double major in Philosophy and Fine Arts. Her focuses included: Classics, theatre, and feminist aesthetics in philosophy of art.
After completing her Bachelor's Degree in Danville, KY, GraceAnne came back to life in the Theatre. She worked as a carpenter, rigger, electrician, flyman, technical director, designer, and painter for five years before pursuing her MFA. She chose to hone her sculptural and scenic painting skills in North Carolina under the guidance of Howard Jones at UNCSA.
In the second year of her program she eagerly became the teaching assistant for the scenic art department under Susan Crabtree; the following two years of experience were priceless. Working with undergraduate students rekindled her love of teaching and naturally led to a thesis focused in arts education. Nothing is quite as rewarding for GraceAnne as facilitating an artist's self-awareness and surprise as they stretch and grow while accumulating new skills. Teaching the mechanics of painting is one thing; educating a young artist...now that is equally as rewarding as creating a production that connects with its audience!
With a toolbox, paintbrush, or syllabus in hand, GraceAnne is always ready for the next adventure.
